CROSSOVER UPDATE

The next Crossover Workshop is:

Working with Challenging Groups with Tim Steiner - Thursday 5th April

2012 from 10am - 4pm at Beat This Studio’s, The Courtyard, 27 Norfolk Street, Peterborough, PE1 2NP.

Drawing on over 15 years experience of building and leading teams of professional musicians in a wide range of challenging contexts, Tim demonstrates the variety of practical ways in which a group can rise above the level of a mere collection of individuals working together, to a dynamic, creative and inspirational team. Unlike the majority of dull and predictable talks on leadership, these sessions can involve participants in genuinely creative and practical group activities which, whilst being hugely entertaining, genuinely encourage individuals to assess their own skills and attributes in leadership and teamwork contexts.

Tim’s extensive experience of working with large and extremely mixed ability groups of people underpins his philosophy on leadership and teamwork. Galvenising a team consisting of international standard classical musicians, together with arrogant young rock musicians, six-year old children, groups of homeless people offers some of the most acute challenges of leadership. To draw the best from every single participant to ensure that they feel like a valued and useful member of the team and to arrive at a performance that fully reflects that process demands an immense sensitivity and flexibility of approach. The experience garnered from many years working in such varied and challenging contexts has resulted in a wealth of skills and qualities that form the backbone to his approach to leadership and teamwork.

What is the Crossover Project

The Crossover project is about sharing your musical skills in a supportive group environment and learning new ones. The Crossover Project was funded by the Neighbourhood Learning in deprived Communities Fun (NLDC). The training will take place in informal groups led by experienced music leaders/practitioners that will encourage you to have a go, explore you own skills and integrate them with other skills, like music technology, production, bands, guitars, etc and other peoples skills like beatboxing, freestyling etc.

After the three months of skills sharing, appox 17 sessions and workshops, there is the opportunity to progress into setting yourself up as a freelance music leader (the information on how to do this will be provided in the training). If that sounds scary, please don't worry as you will be supported throughout April to March, when you will be providing outreach workshops to other adults, by a lead practitioner who will be there to help and guide you , and who you can watch and gain tips from.

(If you take up this opportunity then you will be under contract and there is payment for the work that you undertake)

Sign up now for some sessions and to book a place as they are limited!!!

Young Lives has opened up a ‘Young Enterprise Centre’ in Orton Bushfield, Peterborough, which we are launching on the 26 th April 2012 4-7pm. Please see attached an invitation to attend and  see what we have to offer. Our aim is to support local businesses run by 16-25 year olds, by offering them;

•              Free office space / work space

•              Help with finding the right funding to grow businesses

•              Business planning support

•              Free access to business mentors and weekly speakers in PR & marketing, finance, sales, branding, networking, business management and more

•              Access to meeting rooms, and networking events

The Centre is an exciting new space, as it is one of the few of it’s kind in England offering this service to young people at no cost to them. We are currently accepting applications from businesses to operate from within the centre. Please contact Alice Johnson at alice@young-lives.org.uk if you are interested in finding out more, or to RSVP to the launch event invitation.

Please share this message with young people you know and work with, on social media and with your contacts so we can spread the word as wide as possible and get the message out to those who would benefit.
