The Connecting Communities Project

The Connecting Communities project was a collaboration between Beat This and Peterborough City Council, looking at the Millfield/New England area of Central Peterborough and how it is perceived and thought of by young people living there.

Beat This went to visit different centres and settings, including ACE Training and Gladstone Park Community Centre, within the district of Millfield and New England and engaged with young people from different cultural backgrounds; they also produced some music and scrapbooks which had lots of pictures of the area they live in, and were asked to write down things that popped into their heads about the environment, the general appearance and facilities available or that were not available to them.

This video is an account of the opinions and issues the some of the young people living there have and are faced with. The video was shown to local councillors and residents at the local council neighbourhood meeting in 2010 and some of the young people from Gladstone Park spoke up about what they wanted to see improved in the area they live in.
