What kind of music does the Beat Orchestra play?
The Beat Orchestra creates its own music which will be influenced by the music you like and listen to. Music can be influenced by any style of music Hip-Hop, RnB, Jazz, Classical, Rock, Folk, Bangra, Soul, Reggae…
Can anyone join?
Anyone who lives or studies in Peterborough, is aged 12-19 and loves music.
How often does the Beat Orchestra meet?
The Beat Orchestra meets on Saturday mornings in term time 11-1pm from April the 20th. We will have regular performance opportunities across the year – including a big one as part of Peterborough Festival in August 2013.

What level do I have to be?
We want talented people, who enjoy playing together and working as a team. However, we are not looking for specific levels on your instruments – we believe that anyone at any level can join the Beat Orchestra and become a valuable member.
What happens in rehearsals?
We work both in big and small groups, in a structured jam/workshop session – led by our workshop leaders, Beat This musicians and Britten Sinfonia musicians. Ideas are worked up to form full length tracks. Individuals are given chances to improvise and take solos as well as work together in sections.
Are there auditions?
There are no auditions for the Beat Orchestra. You are welcome to just turn up on a Saturday morning and give it a go. We will then give you a form for your parents / guardian to fill out. How much does it cost to join?
Nothing, the Beat Orchestra is totally free – we just need your enthusiasm and commitment!
I’m a pianist / keyboard player / drummer – I can’t carry my instrument – what should I do?
We will be bringing heavy instruments to the sessions, and will make sure there is something for you to play. Get in touch with us – call or email Lee on 01733 873014 or firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can cater for you.
I don’t play an instrument. Can I still get involved?
Yes – we welcome singers so if your vocal chords are your instrument please get in touch. We’re also recruiting Beat Boxers, MCs and music tech places.
Where does the Beat Orchestra rehearse?
The Beat Orchestra rehearses in various spaces within the Key Theatre, Embankment Road, Peterborough. It’s near the Lido and the Magistrates Court.
What times does the Beat Orchestra rehearse?
The Beat Orchestra rehearses from 11 – 1pm on Saturday mornings. If you’re a drummer or a keys, singer or beatboxer, please turn up early to help set up equipment (don’t worry if you don’t know how – we will have staff on hand to teach you). If you are interested in joining, but know you can’t make all the rehearsals, please get in touch with Lee. You might still be able to join.
Who are the music leaders?
The Beat Orchestra is run in partnership by Beat This, Britten Sinfonia and Vivacity. This means you have access to some top-class musicians, both from the popular and urban music scene, and some of the UKs top classical players. Whatever your passion, we will have tutors who can support and nurture you. Come down and meet us – we’re friendly and ready to make music!
