Luke Payn

Luke is a working artist, project-co-ordinator and event organiser, or space-maker as some might say. He uses his skills and experiences to often create bespoke workshops for different settings and users, or to help with event creation for various groups. He has also done a fair bit of creative consultancy, helping others to develop their ideas for a project. Luke has a DIY attitude and his passion is in enabling others to develop a DIY attitude as well.

Luke has been working in the education sector since 2003, working on events since about 1998 and has been an artist since he was about 5. He originally studied Photography & TV Production and then moved into Fine Art.  He works part-time at Dogsthorpe Infants School delivering their Extended Services and part time as a Freelance Creative Practitioner.

“The Art Of Divergent Thinking – From Ideas To Sketch Book And Beyond!”

A very unusual workshop led by Luke Payn

“At present my main focus is delivering Divergent Thinking workshops, or you could also term this as Creative Thinking, lateral thinking or creative problem solving. This workshop is one that I have produced myself, it has a solid core principal with room for it to expand into exponential variations.

My ethos is that the way we experience the world and the problems we face is indeed lateral and mani-fold, so why not design learning sessions that require a cross-curricular approach.  It also works with one of my personal fascinations which is the understanding and unlocking of the internal dynamic behind the creative act.

This session is suitable for all groups and skill levels and is useful to people no matter what field they work in as it is all about transferable skills and problem solving. If you have a particular  project in mind please talk to me and we can discuss a specially designed workshop for your group.”

Sessions Luke has delivered regularly are    :D en Building – all ages/abilities

:Art without borders : multi-disciplinary sessions

:VJ workshop – projecting live visuals (or DJ’ing with pictures)

”My own arts practice is rooted in photography but makes use of a wide range of materials, styles and techniques. I am interested in stretching the boundries of photography. I have performed live projections at events, exhibited at various venues, done flyer and CD work, documentation for local groups, and I am now having a lot of fun making cartoon-esque collages and producing freehand figurative work of unlikely creatures. I have also done set-design, installations and event décor.”

A fun quote :)

“Intelligence is not to make no mistakes, but quickly to see how to make them good.”

Bertolt Brecht

‘But I don’t want to go among mad people,’ said Alice. ‘Oh, you can’t help that,’ said the cat. ‘We’re all mad here.’
Lewis Carroll

“We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it, than we do from learning the answer itself.”

Lloyd Alexander
