Its been over 5 years since the Lavalamp Nightclub was started and the dedicated volunteer committee decided that adults with disabilities should have a safe space to party. On Valentines Day, February 14th, the first Lavalamp of 2013 kicked off in style.
Sure enough, a substantial queue of “Lavalampers” had formed by the time I arrived at the club and doors opened as usual at 8pm. Resident DJ, Paul Capewell made sure the first punters had something to dance to and played an eclectic mix of disco and soul music to warm things up.
6 weeks prior to the Lavalamp event, seven people were attending the Lincoln Road Centre every Thursday afternoon to train to be DJ’s for the night. The project was initially funded by the BIG Lottery, but has managed to sustain itself for the last 5 years. This is literally down to the passion and commitment of the committee of volunteers, DJs’, stewards and members.
Here are a few of the photo’s taken on the night, and what a great night it was!
The Lavalamp needs YOUR SUPPORT to continue running. We currently need help with:-
- Funding applications
- Book keeping
